So, why the terror stalking the Sea Empress?  
A few years ago, when heading out to the pool deck and determined not to waste my time watching the waves - done that - or the OTHER fat people around the pool - done that too, I decided to cart along my laptop and write a book instead of reading one. I have been writing under deadlines and pressure for years covering news stories of people committing terror, crime, deprivation, murder, mayhem and leaving nothing but a mystery behind as to what in tarnation possessed them to do all that.
Now, I decided, what the heck, I'll just make some good stuff up. 
As I had been covering cops for years as they went from one crime scene to another I had a ready-made backlog of inspiration for characters as well as my admiration for the old Thin Man series of movies from the 1930's, the books of Dashiell Hammett, whom I admired, as well as the many cop shows from days of old to superb contemporary series like Justified.  Many times when reading a crime book or watching a movie, I would say to myself, I know what's coming next, or 'I could write that'. So, here it is. I have written that.

My passion for history and news combine in writing several of my books that tell a significant story of history through the news coverage of the era. KLAN: Killing America, Titanic 1912 and Panama 1914 all feature that format.  Writing about the Chesapeake Bay history, lore and life in general in slackwater and Tidewater has led me to publish six volumes of short stories I originally published thirty years ago in three of my monthly publications. THE CHESAPEAKE: Tales & Scales; Legends, Yarns & Barnacles; Oyster Buyboats, Steamed Crabs & Ships; A Man Born to Hang Can Never Drown; Country Cornpone Cornucopia; and coming in at number six is Tidewater Tales. 

Telling the actual history of the Chesapeake region from 1850 to 1950 through the lives of the fictional family of Ethan Douglas shows the reader the days of when war came to Chesapeake as the region lay between opposing Armies and Navies vying to dominate - all the way to WWII when German U-boats sought to land saboteurs and began to decimate United States shipping in what the Germans called a turkey shoot off of the Virginia Capes. CHESAPEAKE 1850 and CHESAPEAKE 1880 are now available and CHESAPEAKE 1910 is on the way.
